Travis grew up in Watkinsville, Georgia, just minutes from the University of Georgia. The blend of small-town Southern life and the influences of a major college town helped shape not only his music but also his worldview. Influenced by Athens-born bands such as R.E.M., The B-52s, Widespread Panic, and The Normaltown Flyers, as well as the traditional country, soul, and beach music spinning on his father’s turntable, Travis learned early on that no matter the genre, it’s always about the song.
Beautiful Dreamer is a collection of stories about life’s highs and lows, happiness and heartbreak. “Magnolia” kicks off the journey with a trip to New Orleans, while the reflective “Before the World Went Crazy” transports listeners to South Georgia on a hot, lazy summer day. Porterfield’s personal anthem, “Red Clay Stained Soul,” will have you rolling down a back road with the windows down. The foot-stomping favorite “I Know Hank” pays tribute to his father’s musical influence through the legacy of country music’s legends. The beautifully written “Texas in My Windshield” captures the unexpected feeling of finding love again after losing his first wife to cancer.
